After a night of horrific storms… massive rain and intense high winds (@ 50 mph)… and the winter storm advisory forecast for the next few days ahead of us… the decision was made to back-track several miles down a forest service road and be rescued from atop the mountain.

We were given a ride from “Shell Back” and his wife to a Motel in Franklin… where we immediately began to clean and dry our gear.

Bottom line… we are safe and secure from the severe inclement weather that is currently taking place outside.

While we will return to the place where we were rescued (to pick-up-where-we-left-off) and continue our thru-hike,  we will take advantage of this “wait time” to rest our bodies (as it didn’t take SLIPPER too long to get into bed) and spend time with friends coming to see us in Franklin this weekend.

At the end of the day… with us it is always “safety first!”
