Today we begin our trek through The Shenandoah and have heard that it will be much like a “hiking vacation” for the Thru-Hiker!

The “Green Tunnel” effect is upon us and it is wonderful to see floral in full bloom.

We decide to stealth camp tonight and find a private campsite atop a small knoll (tucked withing a lot of mountain laurel).

20160518_164843The pressing question for the evening is: “What’s for dinner?” Survey says, Beef Stroganoff!

So, I lay my tarp at the base of a tree… set up the Pocket Rocket… and “Poof!”… I am working hard at boiling water for this evening’s gourmet meal.

OH SHENANDOAH… I LONG TO HEAR YOU… (and it sounds like the owls that were above our tent at 11:10 pm). Four or five owls were squawking for about 10 minutes and immediately after they were finished with their harmonic chorus, a Whipporwil chimed in for a finale solo! That, my friend, is what Shenandoah sounds like.
