LAKE CONASAUGA

We decide to hike Lake Conasauga in North Georgia before it is too cold for “lake play.”

Temps are to be in the 20’s on Wed. Nov. 13

We begin the day at this waterfall (where “Slipper” slips into something a bit warmer) and realize that the temps are beginning to fall after the rain.

Ahhh, the amazing warmth that a little wool can bring to the body.

Lake Conasauga is the highest elevated lake in the state of Georgia, and after about a 14 mile jeep venture on the gravel road to get there (at least an hour), we finally arrive at this small lake.

We begin out hike around the lake and then down “Song Bird Trail” through a thick Hemlock Forest to an amazing nature preserve where wildlife can remain wild. We stop for a “selfie photo” in front of this Beaver waterway.

After leaving “Song Bird Trail” and the Beaver waterway, we hike “Fire Tower Trail” up toward a high grassy knob, hoping to catch some incredible 360 degree views of the mounatins before the sun goes down.

Climbing a few steps of the Fire Tower gives us a great vantage point!

You will enjoy this easy afternoon hike! Just outside of Ellijay, Georgia, off Hwy 52, as you are traveling toward Fort Mountain. Look for a directional sign to the lake, take a picnic lunch, or have dinner around a campfire.
