DOCKERY LAKE

Just north of Dahlonega, GA (just before you arrive at Woody Gap of The Appalachian Trail) is a sign leading you down to Dockery Lake.

We begin with a hike around the lake only to stop and take a “selfie photo”

We begin the day at this waterfall (where “Slipper” slips into something a bit warmer) and realize that the temps are beginning to fall after the rain.

The trail traverses approximately 3.7 miles up to The Appalachian Trail

You would think that the trail will be like an elevator shaft, but it is moderate.

Just a few paces on the trail and you catch a spectacular view! This is a true wilderness trail and you will feel (at times) that you are walking through the famous forest of The Wizard Of Oz.

This is a great afternoon hike, and if you get out a bit late and want to “stealth camp,” there are actually a couple of great spots by the stream.

Enjoy this hidden gem! Afterwards make sure to stop in the city of Dahlonega!
