Being that our Cumberland Island Vacation Week was diverted and we missed the Ferry Boat (literally), we came home and took a day hike that we have long anticipated… atop Sharptop Mountain!

We have viewed this mountain since the day we moved into our home and Christmas Eve is the day we hike it.

We have no idea what route to take to summit Sharptop Mountain, so we simply walk out our door in the direction of the mountain.

After a few steps to the base, we discover what seems to be an animal trail, and decide that this will be the path-of-least-resistance.

As a Country Song is adequately named: “Aw Naw!” We discover our very own North Face (Rock Face Cliff) and pioneer our own path around it. Switch-backing from tree-to-tree, we make our way up…up…and up.

In no time at all, we summit the mountain and look back to see if we can see our home from the view atop Sharptop Mountain.

Slipper had packed a light lunch and we decide that this will be the perfect (and private) place to have our Christmas Eve Lunch! Our lunch guests for the day were a few happy birds, a few happy squirrels and a few white-tail deer.

The views from the summit of Sharptop are spectacular! This is a mountain that can be viewed as one is approaching the first mountain city of Jasper, Georgia and is a mountain that is an iconic landmark to Pickens County. Having this opportunity outside our front door is amazing!

So where do we go from here? The directional sign atop the summit of Sharptop Mountain tells it all! We continue “Putting our BEST foot forward” on trails around the world!
