A day that we have been anticipating has actually commenced… back-filling the Foundational Walls with dirt!

On this partly sunny morning, I stop by the Citco Gas Station to fill “DuMore” up with diesel gas and to pick up a sausage, egg and cheese “cat-head-bisquit.” I make my way up the mountain to what has officially become known as “Reggie’s Ridge.” Reggie was my best friend who suddenly died when Slipper and I were at Macafee’s Knob while thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail northbound. Reggie would always bring his girlfriends to this popular overlook to see the twinkling lights below.

While enjoying the biscuit and coffee at the overlook, I hear a roar coming up the mountain. It’s THE DIRTY DOZEN! Dump Trucks are making their way to the property to begin the back-fill task to creating our minimal and tiny lifestyle.

It’s like a Dump Truck Parade! THE DIRTY DOZEN drive up… dump… and depart for one load after another.

Meanwhile, I am out at the street working to groom the bank-of-the-property while THE DIRTY DOZEN are in and out all day long.

The idea is to leave the front of the property natural (to provide significant privacy from the few who travel down the road).

We have decided to construct our minimal and tiny homestead as far back on the property and as close the the cliff’s edge as possible. Needless to say, this creates some building challenges that one may not normally experience… such as the requirement of additional dirt brought in by THE DIRTY DOZEN.

While there is still much to be done, we can truly see the progress we have been anticipating.

A few more days with THE DIRTY DOZEN and we can move on to the next phase.

Stay tuned for more activity as we play in the dirt again with THE DIRTY DOZEN.
