Coming into Salisbury, Connecticut we catch a ride with Andy Savage (Owner of Savage Construction) who drops us off in town (after we booked a room with Maria McCabe).

Thanks Andy for the ride… we look forward to  catching back up with you and Kim after the hike!

We stop off at the Country Bistro for a little SALISBURY SWEETNESS by eating our second breakfast of the day and meeting Monica (our waitress) who served these two smelly Hikers with a smile.

Monica… I promise that we don’t always look and smell as bad as we did today! That’s why we looked at the pitcher of clean water as a possible opportunity to bathe with rather than drink LOL!

Maria owns the home (see above photo) and rents out a few rooms to Hikers as a way of sharing the SALISBURY SWEETNESS. She is an 87 year old Italian sweetheart who truly contributes to the SALISBURY SWEETNESS of this quaint and beautiful town.watch full War for the Planet of the Apes film online

After we arrive at her home, we immediately take a shower (and all God’s people said, “Amen!”) and then Maria shuttles us into a nearby town to do laundry and grab some lunch.

Laundromat + Italian Food + Soft Ice Cream = Happy Hikers

While our clothes are being washed and dried, we are eating some of the best Italian ever (from this family owned and operated restaurant… Mizza’s). How good was it?

I demolished a plate of Meat Lasagna and Slipper a plate of Baked Ziti with Voda Sauce (both plates filled with a healthy serving of food)!

OMG! Slipper swears that her Baked Ziti with Vodka Sauce is THE BEST she has ever had… and my Lasagna was incredible (to say the least). Come to find out… they are a treasured family recipe.

While the Owner’s Daughter (Casey) gives us a thumb’s up (probably because we are no longer smelly Hikers)… we give Mizza’s Italian Restaurant a thumbs up too!

After lunch and a soft ice cream cone, Maria comes back to pick us up and then proceeds to give us two Realtors a tour around this small but sweet town (hence the title to this blog: SALISBURY SWEETNESS).

Of course, a trip to Salisbury just wouldn’t be complete without doing a drive-by of Actress Meryl Streep’s home  (see above photo). I thought that I saw her just beyond the gate, but it was a sculpture instead. Now that would have been the cherry-on-top of this day of SALISBURY SWEETNESS!
