“Where in the world did this man come from?” is the question that ran through my mind as we were hiking from Erwin to Roan, Tennessee.

We were out in the middle of nowhere when we ran across Ray Snead (out gathering “Ramps” to take home to his wife for cooking).

Slipper and I loved meeting this man (who appeared to have just stepped off of his tractor) as he showed us a small cropping of “ramps” and pealing one back for us to taste.

He said that he hadn’t been out like he was on that particular day in years! I asked if he felt like a kid again… and his answer was “like a dead kid!” (as it was apparent he had wandered a bit further than he had expected to).

We enjoyed meeting one another on the trail and I left learning what “ramps” are. Okay… so I’m not from the country… nor the farm… nor the hills… nor the sticks… and I had no idea what “ramps” were! Now that I do, I’ll rant about the “ramps” and say, “RAMP IT UP, BABY!”

By the way (just in case you are a little like me) “ramps” are like a mild spring onion… and you dig them up… hence the title to this blog: RAMP IT UP!

So, the above picture are of “ramps” in the wild.

Now ya know… as do I!
