We have all heard the term used for Wednesday as “HUMP DAY,” but do you really know where the term came from? Now wait a minute before you answer too quickly, because I just might have another answer for you!

Today… Wednesday… we break camp from THE BEST TENT CAMP SITE TO DATE… and head over “Little Hump” AND “Hump Mountain!”

This must be where the term contract especially from, right? Some thru-hikers walked over “Hump Mountain” on a Wednesday  (in 30 mph… sustained… cold winds) and said, “Man, we should call Wednesdays “HUMP DAY because we are having to hump it to get over Hump Mountain!”

And if you’ll buy that I have some ocean front property in Arizona!

But perhaps the photo below will captivate your interest as it did mine!

We were preparing to make the ascent up to the top of these high balds, when I turned around to ask Slipper to take the lead. As I turned around, the view of the moon behind this tree caught my eye. It was a sign… TODAY IS HUMP DAY!
