While I love the view of a blue sky from atop a Bald and/or Mountain… I also love having my feet firmly planted on the ground (especially when near the edge of the Bald and/or Mountain). You might say that I choose to be a part of the Ground Crew. That’s okay! We’ll let the Major Toms take flight while we hike!
I can stand atop a Bald or at the edge of a Mountain (looking up into the sky) and say, “GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM.”
Let me be the first to admit that I am not a fan of hiking up “Elevator Shafts” (onward & upward), but Slipper loves it! I do understand that it’s worth it once you get to the summit, it’s just the climb that is the challenge. As soon as I get to the top, I want to stop… take in the view… “Camel-Up” with some cold, filtered water and say, “GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM.”
Funny thing… Slipper actually has a fear-of-heights and yet she love hiking, backpacking and climbing “onward & upward” to the top of Mountains & Balds.
Why?
Because when we finally arrive atop the summit, we can say (from the edge with feet firmly planted)… GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM.
