I felt like I was a part of the Boy Band: Nsync, as I was singing- “Say, Bye… Bye… Baby… Bye… Bye… Bye” while we climbed… and climbed… and climbed… out from Standing Bear Farm heading “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” (Can you guess that I enjoy singing?).

How far will we go today? As far as our feet will take us!

We stop at the first Shelter to eat lunch and filter water (take a closer look and you’ll understand why we tent camp).

Needless to say, we make the easy decision to press on toward Max Patch (which will make today our longest hike yet… 15 miles).

Crossing the first small Bald, we can see Max Patch in the distance (the far away… high… upward… distance).

Hoping that we can make it before night fall… we decide to quicken the pace a bit (usually on ridges and descents).

BAM, baby! We make it! Before nightfall! Before rainfall! Before I fall!

Listen…  for those of you who may be thinking, “I could never do that!” Let me say, “Yes, you can!”

You can actually drive within an eighth of a mile of Max Patch… park your car… and walk up! That’s right! It’s true! No more excuses! And believe me… it’s worth it!

Go ahead and make plans now to take an easy drive and walk up to Max Patch! While we were there a family was at the top with a portable crib… playing Frisbee, having lunch and taking photos! YOU CAN DO IT! Make a Max Patch Memory!
