On The Appalachian Trail there are “Shelters” (3 sided shelter to get out of inclement weather and to lay out a sleeping pad & bag for a night’s rest) that can hold 4, 6, 8 and some that will even hold more people at one given time.

Even if you are the only person to stay in a “shelter” on any given night… you are not alone!

These primitive shelters are home to mice (largely due to we humans leaving scraps of food behind) and whom have staked these “shelters” as their territory! BEWARE!

SLIPPER set her pack down for less than 5 minutes (before heading out to hike another day and BAM… Mr. Mouse ate his way into the snack pocket of her pack.

SOLUTION: Have NO food whatsoever in your pack when staying at a “shelter” AND… leave all areas of your pack OPEN so Mr & Mrs Mouse can “check in your bags” when entering and leaving.
