My dad had a favorite saying: “Keep Lookin’ Up… You’ll See More!” and I often reflect and refer back to this little saying of his time and time again.

We were tent camping in the back of Hogback Ridge Shelter and our conversation this particular morning was that we would most likely be in Erwin, Tennessee on Easter Sunday.

As we were boiling our water for coffee on the Pocket Rocket Stove, my dad’s saying came to mind! I looked up and saw the “cross” (of the above Feature Photo) in the sky and couldn’t help but smile.

It was like a FRIENDLY REMINDER of what is truly important.

On another occassion during a hike, I would have missed this particular photo of a fallen tree forming a cross, if it were not for the “FRIENDLY REMINDER” to “Keep Looking Up… You’ll See More”

One final example of A Friendly Reminder may sound a bit “out there” for you, but it is absolutely true!

We were walking the 13 mile trek into Erwin, Tennessee today and I asked Slipper to be on the look out for yet another “cross formation” to take a photo of. She agreed to do so! At 11:00 am “a still small voice” penetrates my mind saying, “Wait until 12:00 noon… and Keep looking up… you’ll see more!”

Am I crazy, or what?

So we continue to hike (looking for a “cross formation”) and I begin looking at my watch (and seeing the “minute hand” reach 11:15… 11:30… 11:45… 50… 55… 56… 57… 58… 59… and as I was looking up toward the sky… up on the mountain… up in the trees… (to where I almost tripped and fell)… the trail turned to the left and began an upward ascent. At 12:00 pm (as I looked up the trail) stood a man (from Costa Rica) in his hiking apparel and gear.

I was shocked to see someone just appear like that!

After we exchanged greetings, I could barely contain the tears as we departed when THE FRIENDLY REMINDER came to me that it is NOT about the “object” of the cross, but rather the “purpose” of it… and the purpose is “people!”

Wherever you are this Easter Sunday, be reminded (by me… your friend) that Jesus did what He did on the cross for people.
