Everyone wants to know what kind of “Wildlife” encounters we have had while on the trail for 6 months. Have you had any encounters with Bear! Have you seen any Moose? How close have you come to being bitten by a Snake? DON’T LET THE CRITTERS GET YOU!

Critters is just one of the reasons that we choose NOT to stay at shelters… lean-tos… huts… or hostels!

While The Appalachian Trail is probably the most social trail in the United States of America, Slipper and I are not attempting to thru-hike the trail because we are in search of our next best friend… additional company… or others. We enjoy our solitude! We actually prefer just the two of us!

Does this make us prudes? I hope not! Does this mean that we are elite-est? No! Does it move one to think that we are just unfriendly people? I don’t think so! We just care to be in the company and social graces of one another! Get over it!

We stopped by this particular Lean-To (to use the Privy) and eat a snack, when we were suddenly invaded by this relentless red tailed squirrel (that knew exactly where to look and where to go for any potential sign of food remnants).

Do you see the “hanging sticks” in the photo of the Lean-To above? These are to hang your packs so the critters can’t get to them! Guess what? The critters have figured it out!

DON’T LET THE CRITTERS GET YOU is only a hope and a dream if you are staying and sleeping in the Lean-To or Shelter!

If you like Mice… Squirrel… Snake… Bear… and such… the Shelters and Lean-Tos are the place to stay.

If you like solitude and such… DON’T LET THE CRITTERS GET YOU… and sleep in your tent or hammock away from the Shelters and Lean-Tos.
